What Makes A Good Affiliate Program?
Useful or helpful - There are thousands of affiliate programs out there, but to me the best programs are ones that actually help individuals or businesses in some way. A prime example would be www.happyabout.com; Happy About is a book publisher that has an affiliate program to help sell thier books. I first became aware of Happy About when looking for someone to publish my book, (different subject entirely), and later discovered thay had an affiliate program when an acquantence published his book with them.
Easy to get your money - I've seen some affiliate programs where you had to dig through thier web site to find out how much money you were due, and then you had to bill them. That's insane and totally unprofessional.
You shouldn't have to do anything to get paid, they should give you your money on a regular basis without you having to beg for it.
Payment options - You should have the ability to choose how you want to be paid, the good programs are offering choices such as payment via check or paypal.
Support - If you have a question or a problem you deserve quick and helpful support, after all you are helping them generate revenue. If the affiliate program can't respond in a reasonable, (two business days), time then to me they aren't worth their salt.
Marketing assistance - They should have a variety of text and banner promotional pieces for you to utilize at the very least, and the best ones not only provide that but detailed suggestions for promoting the program. Some companies are excellent at doing this, even providing a variety of sample scripts for you to use.
Inexpensive to join - I've seen some affiliate programs wanting to charge you several hundred dollars to market their product. I don't pay it. Affiliate programs should cost little or nothing to join as far as I am concerned. Do I pay to join an affiliate program, I have, but let's face it you ar selling their product or service so why should you have to pay a huge amount to sell something?
